As children we have all grown to love Seaworld and Disneyworld. When one thinks of these places "innocence" comes to mind, not enslavement. Recently, PETA's lawsuit alleges Seaworld for enslaving killer whales. Their argument is that it violates the 13th amendment, which states "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
PETA claims that these killer whales were taken from their families, all things that are natural to them and were forced into captivity at Seaworld. While Seaworld is brushing these claims off by explaining that this is just another publicity stunt.
Being an animal lover, I understand PETA's point to a certain extent but I feel that the whole story is not being presented. It is one thing to catch these whales for entertainment purposes but I feel that it is okay, if they were rescued and are living at Seaworld to help aid their recovery. I am curious to know the story behind the whales' capture and for what purpose. PETA raises some good questions, but do they have enough evidence to support their claims?
